2004 bettini! The world champ stripes aired with the gold, so good!
Seems like a really nice guy!
Didn’t know Paolo Bettini 2004😱
the only thing i hope for is golden wout but i’ve been hurt too many times before.
me 2 brother, me too 😢
One thing that you didn't mention is that a silver or bronze at the Olympics is much more of an achievement than a 2nd or 3rd place and basically any other event. MVDP, WVA and Evenepoel are the only ones I think would race in a way to loose a sure medal to have the chance to win gold. This dynamic could make it much more likely someone could make a solo move work as some riders in the group behind might be willing to let the gold go to make sure they are fresh for the sprint for silver.
Remco needs that period with plenty of attacks of those who know in the last 40 km they can't compete anymore. That can be anywhere from 100 to 50 kms to go in which he must make his move. Of course all domestiques will be tasked to bring him back but he can keep trying. If Van der Poel catches up and Van Aert does not, he should not pull anymore. But if not, he should go no matter he is alone or in a group. If that does not work and Wout is top he has a chance to beat Mathieu in the sprint.
Team control is one thing but with that distance you must also not neglect nutrition. They will likely have less staff along the route than on a tour stage I imagine and certainly will have more disparity between teams. If it splits wildly and car access might be limited I wouldn’t be surprised to see that play a significant factor
Vollering is quicker than ELB in a sprint ( unless she messes up her positioning like in this years LBL), she is stronger now than she was in spring as she also showed vs ELB in Suisse. So it is not strange that she has better odds, not even taking into account that she could benefit from a team game. I agree that Vollering and Vos should try to go early. But they would also be fine going into the final with the three of them. In Glasgow AVV was chasing all race long after a mechanical, Wiebes did not start because of COVID, and Vos was not Vos like she is this year. Plus the course is easier. If Kopecky wins NL has really screwed up.

It is not just the Dutch team that were fooled in Tokyo, so were all the other good riders. The Dutch have brought a dedicated helper this time, Kopecky has three dedicated helpers, and other big teams will also not want a Kiesenhofer scenario.
I know it's been nearly a week but respect for your take on Slovenian women team issue and for mentioning Afghanistan cyclists
Is there any chance that trade team shenanigans cause an upset? Let's say Kirsch, Vacek, Gibbons and Skujins get in the early break together, maybe with some other serious riders, who'll chase? They are gonna work together so well. Any thoughts?
USA got 3 good riders, let's go
King Julian would be great
Chloe is really motivated
I'd lay MvdP at such a short price, it's going to be impossible to control this race.
remco for the double
Very polite from Tadej to skip the olympics so that someone else has a chance to win 🥳
Rui Costa for silver.
If the US and EF allies get in the break, they’re not easy to bring back. Dygert, Knibb, Faulkner, Jackson. 3 TTers and Jackson will work.
I've often wondered about trade team alliances in these kind of events, it's liable to be a factor and that might be just one example. Knibb won't be racing, though - she ceded her place to Kristen Faulkner. It was 'either or' - Knibb was picked for the road race by right having won the Nationals ITT; that was the rules (devised I think by Kristin Armstrong), which meant Faulkner couldn't race, even though she'd finished second in the Nationals TT and won the RR. Only two places were allocated to the US for TT and RR so Knibb would race with Dygert. But eventually Knibb saw sense and stood down (she's a triathlete who's never ridden a road race), so Faulkner's racing instead of Knibb.
Bahahahaha LR talking smack on USA rugby but they take the bronze from the Aussies bahahahahaha
I think SHURE should also sell scale models of the Apollo and SpaceX spaceships. Just do a vinyl wrap.
I want to know Patrick and Benji's zodiac signs.
Lou Lou FTW 🇫🇷
Aa you noted only few countries have a team of 4 most will be one or two. Many of the cyclists will not be WT pro riders and quite a few will be pure amateurs and even hobby riders. So it’s quite weird and imo it’s best to ignore all but the WT pro riders and one of them will take the gold. Weather could be an issue as scattered heavy showers are possible and the roads around Paris become very slippery after rain.
My brother and I counted in the men's. The actual startlist isn't 90 people, but around 65-70. That is a ridiculously small amount for a race this distance.
Mikkel Bjerg and Michael Mørkøv in the Danish lineup, leaving out the likes of Kasper Asgreen, Magnus Cort, Søren Kragh Andersen and Andreas Kron. It seems a bit odd. Mørkøv takes up a place because he's needed for the track events. Questionable rules there.
I love Benji but he does need to be a bit more concise sometimes - 4 minute rambles without asking LR a single question isn't really my conception of a 2-person podcast
Disagree. Benji’s detail always teaches me something.
Perfect scenarios 1) Balsamo, Vos and Georgi in a group up the road. Italy, Dutch, GB and the whole world all looking at Kopecky to chase with Wiebes on the wheel. 2) ELB, Vollering, Georgi up the road. Italy, Dutch and GB all laughing at Kopecky to chase with Wiebes on the wheel.
I don't see anyone dropping kopecky on this race if it's win or die, she's a top 3 GC rider this and last year. BUT, I also do not see wiebes dropping from her wheel..
The Dutch are officially racing for Wiebes; Pat and Benji seem to have ignored that but they're probably right! She'll be hard to shake off, but there's no point in the rest turning up if they don't. Can't see it being all cut and dried, though - Olympic road races, especially the women's, seldom are.
@@kyle_c936Men’s more than women’s. Women’s: Vos, AVDB, freak Kiesenhofer ahead of AVV. Men’s winners have been more random.
I think it is not about whether people drop Kopecky, it is whether she can drop all the others. If she cannot, she will not win. GC not relevant here.
Please can you do a review the bike leg of the triathlons. I think it would be enjoyable
No one really knows those riders and usually not much happens (with the exception of the women's tri where a lot of riders crashed).
Matteo Jorgenson finished the Tour with crazy form. Not impossible he surprises the favorites when everyone is looking at each other in the final 5 km.
I would not say that women's race is short. At the end both courses are in line with RVV lenght. Then the smaller teams can make up for the easier hills
The women's race is comparatively a lot shorter than the men's. It is less than 70% of the men's length. And the women ride way faster than 70% of the men's speed. I estimate the men's race to take 6 hours and the women's around 4.
15:04 Benji?! :D
the join cycling plugs always make me wish there was an equivalent app for my sport. patrick does a great job with them
Yeah, they ought to get into triathlon. If I recall correctly from the interview with the CEO, I think maybe running is in the works.
@@redkeyspoke I also heard that they're adding running soon, but I climb so not much use to me haha! accessing the triathlon market should be huge for them tho
@@user-go1vx6tl8n gotcha. Yeah, maybe weightlifting or calisthenics would be worth the investment and be data driven enough to adapt their algorithms.
Spunds like a course for Remco MvDP perhaps Wout if he has returned to form
Skjeldmose says he is riding 100pct for Pedersen
This is a racers course. MVP will absolutely lay it down. But I can't imagine he will win.
This is an ideal one for an old rat like former World Champion Rui Costa
Please, no.
I think Kasia is going do really well, she’s a great one day rider and I think had a great chance to medal. Winning might be hard cause of her sprint but I like her odds
if I‘m Van der Poel, I’m going to an early break. Guy has so much energy, he can affort trying it and being caught. His guys arent gonna be able to control, he should control himself and he can do that best from the front
He will be instamarked. No gap and other teams will still have riders to chase so a waste of energy
@@bertonabike6991 not saying he should attack from the gun, but follow wheels of the guys that attack. Dont think many teams will chase, maybe Belgium and Denmark, thats it. Others will just try to attack themselves
any team that has has two guys, neither of which is a favorite, can have only one strategy: get in the break. Attack with both guys, if one is in a front group, the other lets the wheel go. And there are many such 2men teams.
@@foobar5809Why shouldnt Van Art mark Van der Poel? Belgium knows that Van der Poel, Pedersen, Alaphillipe should be their main opponents and they cant let them get away.
274,5km. I think a lot of guys are really glad Tadej is not participating. It would/could have turned out with a 'Annemiek van Vleuten'-solo.
Nah, this course isn't hard enough for him.
Not really, AVV’s main competition was in her own team and little else.
The only channel that makes me wave to my laptop! ;-)
Might be race of the year here
The chance of getting a medal should reduce group 2 syndrome
Jorgenson and Nervaez
Re MVDP: In 2012 GBR had Ian Stannard, David Millar, Chris Froome, and Bradley Wiggins all working for Mark Cavendish. Even that team couldn't control the race at all. Cav came 29th. Top 3 were Vinokourov, Uran, Kristoff.
what speaks for MVDP: Super race sense, suited for the course, feels better than he did after the Tour last year, cobbles, 270k+ excatly his distance so idk if he needs a team
I watched that race with a lot of frustration. As Cav was the favourite no other team would work with GBR until they were done, and then the other teams realised they could never catch up with the breakaway when that happened.
@@Flakey101 Same, I really wanted Cav to get gold. It was so frustrating
@@Flakey101 it was the German inaction that really confused me. Greipel was in with a shot if they would have ridden.
I have to pull for the Americans (of course)...go Sheff! If it won't be an American winner, then the dream has to be Bini!
Please do a watchalong stream!
It will be every man for himself forget team leaders or anyone to control the race. Just use your instinct stuff. Going to have to stay at the front get in moves in and pray bit like nationals. It’s totally open and could be anyone’s
Not anyone. My guess is Belgium, France, Denmark, Netherlands all have enough guys working for their leaders which should lead to pretty controlled 100-200 Kilometer i guess.
